Your privacy matters. Obsidian Buddy is designed with privacy at its core—your notes stay on your Mac, and we don't collect or transmit any personal data.

What Information We Collect

License Information

When you purchase a license through Gumroad, we receive:

• Your email address (provided by Gumroad)
• License key for activation
• Purchase date and transaction ID

This information is used solely to verify your license and provide customer support when needed.

What We Don't Collect

Obsidian Buddy does NOT collect:

• Your notes or any content you create
• Your Obsidian vault data or file names
• Usage analytics or telemetry
• Crash reports (unless you explicitly send them)
• Any personal information beyond license data

How Your Data Stays Private

Local Storage Only

All your notes and settings are stored locally on your Mac. Obsidian Buddy:

• Reads and writes files only in your designated Obsidian vault folder
• Stores preferences in standard macOS preference files
• Saves your license key securely in the macOS Keychain
• Never transmits your notes or vault data over the internet

Network Connections

Obsidian Buddy only connects to the internet for:

• License validation: Periodic checks with Gumroad to verify your license (license key only, no personal data)
• Update checks: Checking for new versions via Sparkle framework (no personal data transmitted)

Third-Party Services

Gumroad

We use Gumroad for payment processing and license management. When you purchase, Gumroad handles your payment information according to their privacy policy. We only receive your email and license information, not payment details.

Sparkle Framework

We use Sparkle for automatic updates. It checks our server for new versions but doesn't transmit any personal information—just your app version and macOS version for compatibility checking.

Your Rights

You have the right to:

• Request information about any data we have about you (limited to license information)
• Request deletion of your license information from our records
• Opt out of automatic update checks in the app settings
• Use the app offline after initial license activation

Data Security

We take security seriously:

• Your license key is stored in the secure macOS Keychain
• All network connections use HTTPS encryption
• We don't have access to your notes or vault data
• Your data never leaves your Mac unless you explicitly share it

Children's Privacy

Obsidian Buddy is not directed at children under 13. We don't knowingly collect information from children under 13.

Changes to This Policy

We may update this privacy policy from time to time. We'll notify you of any significant changes through the app or via email if we have your contact information.

Open Source Commitment

While Obsidian Buddy isn't open source, we're committed to transparency about how the app works. If you have questions about our privacy practices, please reach out.
